Detroit Lions and Rams Finally agreed to a shocking trade for QB Jared Goff

A stunning transaction that brought Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles and Jared Goff to Detroit was agreed to by the Lions and Rams in 2021.

With three years without a winning record under his belt, Goff took over a squad with low expectations. When Goff reflects on that transaction, though, he appears happy with the outcome.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Goff stated on the Trading Cards podcast, “In retrospect, (being traded to Detroit) was the greatest thing that ever happened to me, for my career and my development as a human.”

The club soon matured following a difficult first season with the Lions, in which they won only three games. The next two seasons shown genuine potential for a promising future. In 2022, the Lions had a successful 9-8 season and placed second in the NFC North; the same year, Goff was selected for his third Pro Bowl. The Lions then made an even stronger comeback in 2023.

Goff was prepared to take on the task that awaited him, in contrast to what some may have thought of him upon his arrival in Detroit.

With a 12-5 record at the completion of the 2023 season, Detroit led their division and secured the third spot in the playoffs. Goff and the rest of the club had a chance to win the team’s first playoff game in thirty-two years during Wild Card Weekend, and they succeeded. Goff defeated the Los Angeles Rams, his former club, but he wasn’t done yet. Following that, Detroit advanced to the Divisional Round and defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before falling short against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. Goff had a 67.3 completion %, passed for 4,575 yards, and scored 30 touchdowns in that season.
