Boston bruins Left wing Brad Marchand Terminates Contract with Bruins after Argument with Management

On a night when the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Boston Bruins handled some business by defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Bruins can no longer finish lower than second place in the Atlantic Division, and these two results guaranteed them home ice in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Bruins and Florida Panthers will still battle it out to win the Atlantic Division at the end of the season, but as of right now, the Bruins are up one point and have two games left on their schedule compared to the Panthers’ one. The Bruins may win four games since they are only three points short of the top spot in the NHL.

For the Bruins, securing home ice advantage in the opening round is a wise housekeeping move. In the end, it may be a real game-changer as they try to go past the first round following a heartbreaking, but otherwise historic, first-round elimination last season that left a bad taste in the mouths of both the team and the fans. Though the Bruins’ home record of 24-10-6) is nearly the same as their road record of 23-8-9, it may seem exaggerated to suggest that home-ice advantage would be such a potent difference-maker. However, the playoffs are a very other animal.
