New York Knicks star Jalen Brunsons season in jeopardy after shocking injury

Throughout the 2023-24 season, New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson has been one of the NBA’s greatest players. Despite the team’s injuries, Brunson has had a standout season, earning his first trip to the All-Star game with more awards on the way.

Teams have tried a variety of defenses against him, but he is always able to counter them. If you play him one-on-one, he will subject his opponent to torment. Whatever he lacks in stature and agility, he compensates with great footwork, balance, and basketball IQ.

Some teams have begun to use defenses similar to those seen in the NBA playoffs. They are blitzing him with double teams as soon as he reaches midcourt, removing the ball from his hands. That has put pressure on his teammates to step up, and thus far, Josh Hart and Isaiah Hartenstein have thrived with the ball in their hands as an outlet.

Then you have teams like the Milwaukee Bucks. Despite having some excellent defensive guys, they are unable to slow down Brunson. Doc Rivers, the head coach, had no answer for Brunson, who went to work on whoever was up against him.

In a big game on Sunday night, Brunson and the Knicks won 122-109. The star point guard led the way with 43 points, hitting 16-of-32 from the field overall, 2-of-6 from three, and 9-of-11 from the free throw line.

Brunson created NBA history with this performance. Coming into the season, Allen Iverson had the most points in a single season against the Bucks (181).

The Bucks have struggled defensively this season, which is one of the reasons for the coaching move, with Adrian Griffin replaced by Rivers. Rivers hasn’t turned things around as quickly as the organization would like, and Brunson’s dominance is a prime example.

Griffin didn’t have much luck slowing Brunson down, but the Bucks were winning with him at the helm. That is no longer the case, as the Knicks sit only one game behind the Bucks for second place in the Eastern Conference.
