Spring football is winding down in Knoxville, so it’s time for a few scrimmages to cap things up. Tennessee held their second scrimmage on Thursday night at Neyland Stadium, preparing for next week’s Orange and White Game.

Tennessee’s main players are either resting or recuperating, allowing some new faces to get vital experience. Injury concerns on the offensive line and at running back will shake things up next weekend, with players such as Vysen Lang and Desean Bishop playing important roles in the offense.

“It was a lot of fun tonight,” Josh Heupel remarked about the practice. “Based on the scheduling, we decided to do a night scrimmage. It’s great to be beneath the lights inside Neyland. Guys were full of energy and produced excellent work. And defensively, I thought they began off quickly, violently, and disruptively. I left the field on third downs. Did an excellent job offensively, settling in for the second part of the scrimmage. So a lot of good work here for just getting beyond the midpoint of spring ball.”

“Our defensive line has brought excellent intensity and consistency to every drill we’ve had. Veteran groups, particularly on the interior, have kind of led the way. Our edge group is improving, and the young and new guys have grown swiftly inside it, and they are playing at a high level. They’re using their hands better than ever before, and I’m not only talking about pass rushing, but also the run game. “I really like what that group has done.”

“(Vysen) Lang is still growing. With his hand on the ball, this strong boy is continuing to improve his communication abilities. (William) Satterwhite, Max Anderson is taking some photos. All of those men are being put into it, thrust into it, and they’re handling it very well. And when I say that, I mean how they manage recovering from a bad play or series and moving on to the next one. So that group still has a lot of room to develop. But they pushed exceedingly hard and did so before we received the spring ball.”
