Eagles And NY Jets Finally Agreed on A $80 Million Deal of Trading Haason Reddick, As Part…
The New York Jets traded for Haason Reddick in the hopes that he would continue to be one of the NFL’s finest quarterback sackers.
Reddick is one of only two players, along with Myles Garrett, to have double-digit sacks in each of the previous four seasons. The 2022 All-Pro is one of the NFL’s top pass rushers.
That, of course, is his job: to sack quarterbacks. One would expect the Eagles to be pleased with Reddick’s performance and ability to complete his duties, but a recently leaked story implies otherwise, indicating potential damage control.
According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, certain members of the Eagles organization accused Reddick of “chasing sacks” last season in order to gain a higher contract.
In other words, he was determined to perform a good job for himself and his team. You know, what all NFL players should be doing.
Reddick’s 50.5 sacks rank fourth among all NFL players since the start of the 2020 season. That includes an incredible 2022 season that saw him finish with 16.0 sacks en route to being named a second-team All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year finalist.
It’s unclear what the Eagles’ alleged problem is with Reddick. Perhaps some team members believed he was neglecting assignments or not giving his all on run plays.
Of course, every available evidence contradicts that argument. Last season, the Eagles’ front seven was their strongest point of defense, and Reddick was one of the team’s best run defenders.
The timing of this claim is especially noteworthy, given that Reddick was moved away in a contentious deal just days prior. With many Eagles supporters outraged by Reddick’s leaving, the organization may have been attempting to mitigate the situation.
Whatever the case, it’s safe to assume that the Jets won’t be too concerned about Reddick “chasing sacks” in 2024. If anything, I believe Robert Saleh will encourage it.
