Tiger Woods is going all out to make a return at the Masters next week in Augusta.
The former world number one hasn’t played competitively since February, when he had to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational due to sickness.
According to reports, the 48-year-old, who has been plagued by ailments for the majority of his career and escaped a possibly fatal vehicle accident three years ago, would like to retire from the sport he once dominated.
However, the 48-year-old is determined to compete for his sixth Green Jacket when the world’s greatest players gather in Georgia next week for the season’s opening Major.
According to a close acquaintance, Woods is even forbidding himself from having sex in order to save energy and focus ahead of his latest probable comeback.
“He’s focused,” the acquaintance told the New York Post. ‘He’s working extremely hard in the gym. He’s eating properly. He has even eliminated sex.
‘He does it now when he’s preparing: no sex till after the tournament. He does not want anything to take away his concentration.
Despite his best efforts, Woods is unlikely to duplicate his exploits from 2019, when he won the most unexpected of victories.
Woods flew to Georgia last week and completed a practice round, but NBC analyst and former PGA Tour pro Notah Begay III says he has ‘zero movement’ in his ankle.
‘He’s trying to devise a plan and approach that will allow him to work within the limits that have been imposed on him. “And he has some constraints,” Begay said in a conference call Wednesday.
He has little movement in his left ankle and is also dealing with low-back issues, which he expected.
He added, ‘For the past few months, he’s been trying to figure out how to recuperate. He can play golf. We knew the question would be, ‘Can he walk the 72 (holes)?’ That is still in the air.
‘But can he recover between rounds? That’s the biggest question I have, and he won’t know until he gets out there and sees if the way he prepared for this year’s Masters will work for him
