Congratulation to Trail Blazers’ coach Chauncey Billups as he was elected to Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame

An NBA source has verified to The Oregonian/OregonLive that Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups has been chosen to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The news was originally reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic. Later this week, the NBA is anticipated to make an official statement.

Vince Carter, a former star of the Toronto Raptors, was also chosen.

Between 1997 and 2014, Billups spent 17 seasons in the NBA. His greatest seasons were spent as a member of the Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons.

According to Billups, his childhood aspirations were limited to participating in the NBA, making the All-Star team, and taking home a championship. Never once was the Hall of Fame taken into account.

Prior to the Blazers’ game against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday, he told reporters, “My dreams never even got that big.” “So, it goes without saying that once you reach that point and begin to emerge as an All-Star each and every season, along with a title, you begin to believe that’s it. If you will, I refer to it as basketball heaven. However, I never gave it a second thought when I was younger. I had no genuine knowledge of it. So, it’s astonishing that you’re here right now. It is, in fact.

Billups continued, saying he never chased metrics in order to succeed.

He stated, “I just tried to play for my team as a point guard and make everybody better by playing the right way my entire career.” And as a result, I experienced all the pleasant things in life. It’s a powerful illustration of it.

In addition to winning Finals MVP, Billups assisted in guiding the Pistons to the 2004 NBA title. He placed in the top six in the regular-season MVP vote twice and was twice selected to the NBA’s all-defensive team (2006, 2009).

Billups averaged 15.2 points and 5.4 assists per game throughout his career.
