Leeds news: Pundit ‘shocked’ by Raphinha plans to unite with team following 4 word comments

Leeds United should have negotiated a sell-on clause for former player Raphinha’s transfer to Barcelona.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie revealed he was “shocked” the Whites didn’t and predicted they will now regret their decision.

Raphinha, 27, joined the La Liga giants in 2022 for a reputed £55 million, but insiders have told Football Insider (26 March) that Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal is willing to pay Barcelona up to £86 million for his services this summer.

The Brazil international was a standout at Elland Road during his two-year stay, but his big-money move to Barcelona hasn’t paid off.

Leeds United made a “huge” blunder with the Raphinha acquisition.
McAvennie was perplexed that Leeds would not negotiate a sell-on clause, claiming they risk losing a “huge” revenue increase if Raphinha is sold.

“Of course, Leeds will be deeply regretting not including a sell-on clause,” he told Football Insider.

“Barcelona may have stated that he will not be going, but they nonetheless included the clause.

“It’s an unusual situation, but that’s what a smart football director does.

“They cross every T and dot every I, which is a genuine tragedy.

“The money that they could have got could’ve been huge.”
