Harry Winks has made a daring remark against Leicester City manager, Enzo Maresca.
The midfielder joined Leicester City from Tottenham Hotspur last summer for a reputed £10 million.
However, throughout his time at Spurs, Winks worked with Mauricio Pochettino, José Mourinho, and Antonio Conte, all of whom have won significant European league titles as managers.
Maresca is in his second role as a team’s head coach, having previously worked for Parma before becoming Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City.
The Italian is expecting to lead the Foxes to Premier League promotion this season, but his aspirations were dashed on Friday afternoon with a 1-0 defeat to Bristol City.
Winks commended Maresca’s efforts with the club this season, emphasizing the characteristics that made him such an interesting coach to work for.
The 28-year-old claims that Leicester’s manager is the greatest he’s worked for in his career.
“By far the best manager I’ve ever worked for,” Winks told Sky Sports on Twitter.
“He’s amazing, and I believe he’s on his way to being a top manager.
“He has everything, he’s a wonderful manager, and he’s an incredible tactician.
“Some of the decisions he advises us to make before the game, and how we see the games, are things I’ve never seen before in football.
“It’s really opened my eyes to football and how it’s played.
“That kind of Pep Guardiola style, I know he’s worked with him for a very, very long time, so I’m really enjoying my football; it works wonderfully for me.
“It’s the kind of football I want to play and I buy into, and I think since he’s come in I’ve learned so much and continue to do that.”
Maresca’s team was flying high at the top of the Championship standings for much of the season, but their recent poor form has allowed Leeds United and Ipswich Town to catch up.
A 1-0 setback to Bristol City on Good Friday afternoon has harmed their hopes even more, resulting in them losing their whole lead after suffering their third defeat in six games.
It will now be a four-way struggle for the two automatic promotion spots in the final weeks of the season, with Southampton also in the mix.
Leicester are also facing the prospect of penalty for alleged financial rule violations, which might result in a points loss.
If a penalty is awarded before the end of the season, they may lose their promotion chances.
The Foxes’ next game is an important one at home against play-off contender Norwich City on April 1.
Winks has worked with many outstanding coaches during his time at Tottenham, so this is high praise from the midfielder.
Leicester have played an entertaining brand of football this season, and Maresca has gained a lot while working with Guardiola at City.
This is a great remark to hear if you’re a Leicester fan since it demonstrates Maresca’s coaching abilities.
Their recent form is concerning, but this statement from Winks demonstrates how highly the squad regards their manager, which could be critical in overcoming their recent poor performance.
