When the Boston Bruins visit the Capitals on Saturday night, John Carlson is expected to participate in his 1,000th NHL game, making him the second player to do it in as many weeks. The Capitals announced the celebrations in honor of Carlson’s historic accomplishment before of the big night.
Prior to the team’s game against the Ottawa Senators on April 7, Carlson will get his pregame ritual. That evening’s puck drop is scheduled to begin at a considerably earlier hour of 6:00 pm.
The Capitals have announced that at the event, Carlson will receive a unique present from the team, the National Hockey League, and his teammates. He’ll join Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom as the only players to have played 1,000 games in a Capitals uniform and the 13th player overall to accomplish it.
Since being selected 27th overall in the 2008 NHL Draft, Carlson has appeared in 999 games for the Capitals as of Saturday night’s game. He has scored 667 points (148g, 519a) in those games. He leads the Capitals in terms of games played, assists, points, game-winning goals (30), and power-play points (247) among defenseman.
