Breaking: Becky Hill, Alex Murdaugh’s court clerk, resigns following claims of jury manipulation.

Becky Hill, Alex Murdaugh’s court clerk, resigns following claims of jury manipulation.

Because of claims that the jury in the Alex Murdaugh murder trial was tampered with, Becky Hill, the clerk for Colleton County Court, stated on Monday that she is retiring and would not be running for office again this year.

The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are now conducting two investigations into Hill. According to Hill, none of the accusations made against her during her trial had any impact on her decision.

“We had to oversee one of the largest trials in South Carolina history in 2023, which had a huge impact on our clerk’s office. “On Monday, at a press conference, our small town came together and made everyone proud,” Hill stated. “Managing a trial with such importance to the people of South Carolina, as well as to the national and international media interest and public scrutiny, has caused me to reflect upon decisions involving my stay in the office of the clerk of court.”

The decision by Hill, who served as court clerk for almost four years, to forego running for reelection in 2024 will free her up to “focus on being a wife, a mother, and a grandmother.” “Ample time to other Republican candidates” who are interested in the Colleton County Court Clerk post, she continued.
