Leeds United’s £10 million deal for O’Riley was reportedly rejected in the summer. The midfielder has since enjoyed one of his greatest seasons to date, with 11 goals and 15 assists in 39 games across all competitions for Celtic.
Unsurprisingly, such performances, as well as his inclusion in the Denmark national squad, have raised his stock.
Despite this, summer fans in Leeds remain enthusiastic. According to GiveMeSport, O’Riley is projected to be in high demand during the transfer season, and a move to the Premier League is possible. Celtic may also be persuaded to sell, with the Whites, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Brentford all interested in the midfielder.
It remains to be seen how this season concludes. But, if Leeds United are promoted from the Championship, O’Riley may be the ideal summer signing.
O’Riley has sparked significant curiosity. Not only are reputed talent scouts Brighton and Brentford interested, but Spanish club Atletico Madrid had an offer for the 23-year-old rejected in the January transfer window.
That demonstrates how highly regarded the midfielder is, and why he would be a statement signing for Leeds United this summer.
The Elland Road outfit, however, has undeniable appeal. Their home ground is packed with enthusiastic supporters every week, and with ambitious ownership in place, they’ll be determined to cement their spot in the top tier and move up the division if they win promotion this season.
That is a big if, though. Missing out on promotion from the Championship would almost probably put an end to their ambitions of signing O’Riley. He appears to be destined for the top, and with 26 goals from midfield, he is capable of making the leap.
He’d provide Leeds United a powerful goal threat in midfield. The possibility of him teaming up with dynamic talents such as Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville is thrilling, and it would likely instill dread in top-flight defenders.
O’Riley might be the ideal signing for Daniel Farke and co. this summer, but they must return to the Premier League to have a chance of bringing him in.
