Red Sox Has finally Signed Chase Anderson Worth $56.7million
Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com (X link) reports that right-hander Chase Anderson has signed a Major League contract with the Red Sox. Anderson, who was only formally released from his minors contract with the Pirates early today, had a very brief stay in free agency.
Unless their teams had previously agreed to add them to the 26-man active roster, Anderson and the other Article XX(B) free agents had until yesterday to determine whether or not to exercise the opt-out rights in their minor league contracts. If Anderson plays in a major league game, the Red Sox will be his eighth different team in his ten MLB seasons as a pitcher. The right-hander has struggled greatly since the beginning of the 2020 season, with a 6.19 ERA over 192 innings. For a Rockies squad that was anxious to add innings to an injury-plagued rotation, Anderson posted a 5.75 ERA over 17 starts and 81 1/3 innings in the previous year. While there is some degree of doubt in the anticipated starting five of Tanner Houck, Brayan Bello, Nick Pivetta, Kutter Crawford, and Garrett Whitlock, Boston’s pitching position isn’t quite as bad as it might be.
