Hawks coach Quin Snyder discusses the perplexing choice that led to Jalen Johnson’s injury
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers squared up on Monday night on the court at the Crypto.com Arena with Jalen Johnson and the Atlanta Hawks. Johnson made his mark on the City of Angels with multiple spectacular dunks, most notably a poster slam over Lakers guard Austin Reaves on the opening Atlanta possession of the game, despite the Hawks being thoroughly dominated for four quarters.
Johnson’s strange continued presence in the game about halfway through the fourth quarter, even though the Hawks were behind by nearly thirty points, caused some debate in the aftermath. Following that, Johnson looked to suffer an ankle injury on a play, though the exact nature of the damage is yet unknown.
Following the game, Hawks head coach Quin Snyder provided an explanation for why, in a game that was obviously lost, his team’s future was still in play at that particular moment.
At the seven-minute mark, I had Vit (Krejci) at the table for (Johnson), and he hurt his ankle. Brad Rowland of the Locked on Hawks podcast on X, the social networking site formerly known as Twitter, said that Snyder stated, “Hopefully he’s going to be alright.”
Fans in Atlanta would likely be quite understanding if the Hawks handled Johnson’s return to the court with additional caution in light of his most recent injury. In a disappointing season for Atlanta, Johnson has been probably the only bright light. At this point, Johnson’s long-term health is far more crucial than any regular season victories in the last stretch of the 2023–24 campaign.
