Tyrann Mathieu, a safety for the New Orleans Saints, recently explained what he believes went wrong between himself and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mathieu took to Twitter (now X) to respond on the release of Denver Broncos defender Justin Simmons. In doing so, he engaged in some banter with followers over his previous inclination to go on social media rants.
“I want to go on a rant because my favorite safety got released but he’s a pro’s pro & one of the best in the game,” Mathieu was quoted as saying. “He will land on his feet!”
A fan said, “That was a short rant!”
He said, “I haven’t rant in years it’s the reason I got fired from last job lol.”
Mathieu frequently engaged with Chiefs supporters on Twitter throughout his stay with the organization, which lasted from 2019 to 2021. When it came down to it during the 2022 NFL offseason, Kansas City elected to go in a different way with Justin Reid, despite Mathieu’s camp and the Chiefs’ insistence on a reunion. He plainly believes that some of his previous social media rants contributed to his inability to secure a long-term contract.
Mathieu’s family still remains in Kansas City, despite the fact that he eventually moved to New Orleans to play for his local team. Mathieu signed a two-year contract deal to stay with the Saints on Thursday. It appears that the contract had already been signed when his Twitter fingers returned to action.
