Breaking: Jimmy Johnson is ‘back in the fold’ with Cowboys

Jimmy Johnson and the Dallas Cowboys are leaning hard into the make-up portion of their relationship as of late.

Texas’s Frisco As of late, Jimmy Johnson and the Dallas Cowboys have been heavily focusing on their reconciliation. Together with owner and general manager Jerry Jones, Johnson helped lead the team to two Super Bowl triumphs, which culminated in their highly publicized separation in the early 1990s.

When Jones inducted Johnson into the team’s prized Ring of Honor during halftime of the Week 17 matchup against the Detroit Lions in 2023, the long-standing schism was resolved. The two are now on speaking terms, regardless of whether their constant claims that there were no hard feelings were genuine or just the sound of a hatchet being buried.

According to Johnson, to suggest that they’re just on speaking terms might be an understatement.

Since the Ring of Honor, I am now on his [Jerry Jones’] advisory board,” Johnson remarked to Joe Rose on **[WQAM 560 AM in Miami**, maybe hinting at the fact that he had a real title.

Although Johnson was clearly having fun while making that statement, the underlying message about the repaired relationship is still relevant, and it’s evident that Jones and Johnson are once again talking football, with the former being eager to offer guidance to the Cowboys.

“We were talking on the phone about an hour after his Green Bay loss, and he was talking about what all he needed to do because he had big decisions on Mike McCarthy and Dan Quinn and Dak Prescott,” said Johnson. “Now everything is going smoothly. I’m back with the Dallas Cowboys.”

Considering his contractual obligation to broadcast, it’s unlikely that you’ll receive official confirmation that Johnson is back in the organization in any form, but that doesn’t mean he can’t lend an old friend of his a sympathetic ear and share his thoughts about the team with Jones.

After listening to Johnson’s remarks regarding the Cowboys owner prior to the ceremony, it seemed like a logical next step in their development.
