Joakim Dodson, a wide receiver from Collierville High School, is the newest prospect to pledge to the Tennessee 2025 recruiting class. Tennessee’s first receiving commit in the class, he is ranked as the No. 547 recruit in the 2025 class. Logan Johns, Dodson’s wide receiver coach, talked with Volunteer Country about the recruit after Dodson made his commitment.

“His attention to detail sets him apart from other athletes, in my opinion. He will already have his own notes, and I send weekly scouting reports on the secondary we will play. His notes resemble mine in many ways, and he always knows what needs to be fixed when he makes a mistake. Before I even ask, he can tell me what changes he has to make.”

The coach of wide receivers dives in.

Johns continues, “Coaching him has given me the opportunity to work with one of the best all-around young men.” In the classroom, he works hard and is always respectful. He’s on pace to graduate early because he takes honors classes. He and I never had any problems. He was always cracking jokes and grinning. When you first meet him, if you know him, he is reserved. When we initially met, I had to help him come out of his shell. When he initially came over, I think I told him it was okay to smile, but I really appreciate that I got to know and mentor him.”

Johns holds his student-athletes to a high standard. “I’m sure he’ll do great things and flourish at the next level. He put forth a lot of work to earn the position. I am aware that he will only continue to rise. I am aware that he puts pressure on himself to succeed in college and to get into the NFL. His willpower and hunger will propel him toward realizing his goals. I will always be among his staunchest followers and will always be proud of him. I am extremely excited to watch him do what I already know he can do, which is make plays at the next level, and I can’t wait to see what his senior year brings.”
