TCU Horned head coach Gary Patterson Announce his departure to coach for another team due to

Former TCU coach Gary Patterson has landed another job with a Big 12 rival. Patterson is joining Dave Aranda’s staff at Baylor as a senior level strategic consultant. SicEm365’s Colt Barber was the first to report the news. A source confirmed the report to the Star-Telegram. The position will include scouting duties for the Bears. Aranda is in a pivotal year after a 6-7 season in 2022 followed by a 3-9 campaign this past season. Patterson last held a position at Texas, where he was a special assistant to Steve Sarkisian.

“For my time at Texas this past year, I’m so grateful to Steve Sarkisian, the players, and the fans,” Patterson said to Horns247. “My stay in Austin was fantastic. I took on that role immediately after graduating from TCU, and because I wanted to be a sponge, I put off doing a lot of foundational work. I was interested in observing the recruiting processes, practices, and handling of NIL (name, image, and likeness) by the Texas staff coaches, who have experience at places like Alabama and Washington.

“I thoroughly loved the players and gained a great deal of knowledge and respect for players like Jeff Choate, Bo Davis, and Pete Kwiatkowski. Who knows? Perhaps by August, if Sark will allow it, I’ll want to return. But for the time being, I think I should prioritize spending time with my wife, children, and grandchildren while simultaneously trying to figure out how I can support college football more broadly.
