Naturally, Defoe is a Spurs icon in his own right following an amazing playing career with the North London team, and he is eager to work with Spurs as he tries to make his managerial debut.

Jermain Defoe wants to manage Tottenham

The 41-year-old spoke about his ambitions.

“It would be amazing to manage Tottenham,” Defoe said.

“And the crazy thing about football is you never know. An opportunity could be around the corner.”

Defoe is now far from being given consideration for this kind of position, but perhaps in the future. Ultimately, he hasn’t even held the position of manager thus far.

Club legends are increasingly being recruited in to manage elite teams these days.

 

Mikel Arteta is at Arsenal, Frank Lampard was briefly at Chelsea, Xavi is the manager at Barcelona, and Zinedine Zidane was the most successful manager of Real Madrid in recent memory.

Defoe does need to gain experience elsewhere, but if he can raise his managerial profile, it might not be too long until Tottenham gives him some thought.

Although we don’t know if Defoe has what it takes to be a successful manager, the former England striker may have what it takes to work in the dugout at a big Premier League team after impressing Brighton’s CEO in a fictitious interview.
