Houston Texans Head Coach DeMeco Ryans Devastating Coach of the Year Loss

During the NFL Honors Awards ceremony, it was revealed that Houston Texans’ DeMeco Ryans was eliminated from contention for Coach of the Year by a single first-place vote. After serving as assistant coach since 2017, DeMeco is an NFL head coach in his first year. He led the Houston Texans from a 3-13-1 record in 2022 to a division title and a postseason victory. According to some, he should have won Coach of the Year.
The NFL held its yearly Award Honors event on Thursday night, whereby various players and coaches are honored for their annual accolades. Coach of the Year went to Cleveland Browns’ Kevin Stefanski. After it was discovered that there was a tie for the overall number of votes, Stefanski prevailed on the tie-breaker for first place votes.

Ryans of DeMeco For the first time in four years, the Houston Texans made it to the playoffs. Kevin Stefanski and the Browns were defeated 45–14 by the Houston Texans. The two turnovers committed by Joe Flacco and the Browns offense proved to be a major factor in the game, even though the Texans outgained the Browns by thirty yards.

Unfortunately, the results showed that this game would not have a lasting impact on the coach of the year voting.

The Houston Texans finished the 2022 season with a 3-13-1 record, last in their division, and a season-long struggle with the Chicago Bears for the first overall pick. After finishing in second place, they select CJ Stroud, trade back up, and select Will Anderson Jr. with the third overall pick.What appeared to be a bold choice at the time might wind up redefining the franchise’s identity over the ensuing decades.
