Breaking News: Los Angeles is back….

Spencer Dinwiddie Likes The Idea Of Playing For The Los Angeles Lakers

Following his trade deadline acquisition from the Brooklyn Nets, Spencer Dinwiddie was released by the Toronto Raptors and is expected to reach the free market once he clears waivers. Now that he’s undoubtedly the biggest name in the buyout market, Dinwiddie expressed interest in a post on X speculating that he would join the Los Angeles Lakers.

Dinwiddie attended William Howard Taft Charter High School in Los Angeles, California, where he was born. Growing up, he was a big Lakers fan and looked up to Kobe Bryant, so I have no doubt that he would be open to the notion of playing for them.

Despite shooting 39.1% from the floor for the Nets, the 30-year-old has struggled in this 2023–24 season, averaging just 12.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. But perhaps a change of scenery will help him get back on track.

One of the top teams to sign Spencer Dinwiddie is the Lakers.
In this instance, there seems to be a strong mutual interest. According to NBA analyst Dave McMenamin, the Lakers, who are currently 27-26,”Sources tell ESPN that after guard Spencer Dinwiddie clears waivers, the Los Angeles Lakers are among the teams most likely to sign him. This season, the 30-year-old native of Los Angeles averaged 12.6 points and 6.0 assists for BKN.”

The Lakers have been making an effort to add some assistance at the guard position for the majority of this season. They had been closely linked to both Dejounte Murray and Zach LaVine, but they were unable to sign either player. They should be active in the takeover market, and Dinwiddie sounds like a prime candidate.

Over the years, he has demonstrated his ability to be a very effective offensive player in both playmaking and scoring roles. In a limited sense, he would also be a better defensive player than D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves.

Dinwiddie was apparently coveted by the Lakers as well, so it would be quite the coup if they acquired him for nothing.
